THE SECRET SUNKEN GARDEN

A rehabilitation of College of the Atlantic's long-neglected Sunken Garden into an edible, sustainable landscape. Native edible plants were introduced to create a low-maintenance garden that feeds both people and wildlife, supported by the Lorrie Otto Grant Program and the Food and Sustainable Agriculture Systems Fund. A central undertaking was the restoration of the garden's unstable 100-year-old granite entrance arch: $6,000 was raised to fund a masonry workshop led by stonemasons from Creative Stone .
