Archaeological reconstruction of Herod the Great's winter palace complexes along Wadi Qelt in the Jordan Valley, situated 200 meters below sea level. Excavated ceramic planting pots, elaborate Roman water channel systems, peristyle courtyard gardens, and swimming pools document an ambitious royal landscape program. Fossil pollen analysis identifies the cultivated plant species, revealing how Herodian hydraulic engineering transformed an arid desert valley into a lush Mediterranean garden landscape within the region's renowned date palm and balsam groves.
