DESIGN

In every new project I begin with the genius loci, that ancient intelligence a landscape possesses. It lives in the water laughing its way capriciously downhill, in the plants that have quietly taken up residence along forgotten edges, and in the long confiding whisper of wind-tumbled leaves.

I believe gardens are the most powerful spaces humans make. At their best they are places of genuine transcendence, where the boundary between self and world becomes porous. A garden can hold a morning of quiet inward observation, an afternoon of loud helpless laughter, and a romantic dusk. You might grieve in one, or notice your neighbor is actually quite interesting. A bee lands on your hand and you both agree, wordlessly, to remain still. Children discover that soil smells different after rain, and that this matters enormously, even if they cannot yet say why.

Design, for me, is an adaptive process that balances culture, ecology, and storytelling. I am drawn to the nostalgic power of landscape, to gardens that carry memory without becoming a museum. It is an opportunity to create a place clients fall in love with, and want, instinctively, to share that delight.
